The Company Profile

The plant’s history goes back to 1930 and it is closely linked with Ford motor company. The automobile plant was built within very short terms and on January 29, 1932 the first lorry GAZ-AA left the assembly line.
The Gorkii Automobile Plant was registered as a joint-stock company on December 21, 1992. OAO GAZ comprises 5 major factories, 11 independent production plants, 100 workshops, 2 powerful plants involved in production of construction materials, a science and research centre and a testing ground, agro-industrial farms, cultural and sport buildings. The main plant occupies 597. 5 hectares. The company runs a well developed dealer’s network with offices located in 160 cities of Russia and in the near abroad.
The company’s share in the industrial output of the Nizhny Novgorod province in 1999 was about 34%. OAO GAZ produces about 60% of all Russian lorries, 15% of cars 32% of buses. In 1999 the company produced 240 000 vehicles, 21 000 in assembly plants located elsewhere in Russia and CIS, the production volume amounted to 21 bln. 957.1 mln roubles. Daily 430 Volga cars and 300 GAZell mini-buses leave the assembly lines.

The Main Types of Products

OAO GAZ is the only company in Russia which produces at the same time such a wide range of products: GAZell and Sobol small capacity vehicles and mini-buses, Sadko medium lorries, Volga medium class cars, GAZ-560 diesel engines (STEYR). In addition, the company area of operation includes: production of machine tools, stamp and press forms, motor units and components, manufacture of cast iron, steel non-ferrous metal blanks, industrial and civil engineering, production of heat and electric power, consumer goods, finance and stock market transactions.
