Zavolzhie Engine Plant (ZMZ) was founded on April 17, 1958 and during its history it has produced almost 13 mln. motor vehicle engines; starting from 1993 it produces 4-cylinder 16-valve injection engines type ZMZ-406 of Euro-2 standard.
At present OAO ZMZ produces over 80 modifications of internal combustion engines and it is one of the major centre of motor vehicle engine industry in Russia. The main consumers of ZMZ products are Gorky, Ulianovsk, Pavlovo automobile plants.
To-day the company has developed and produces a whole family of engines with controlled operating volume from 2.3 to 2.7 l for motor vehicles of GAZ and UAZ models.
In 2002 the small bunch production division of the company started to manufacture low volume diesel engine ZMZ-514 meeting the requirements of Euro-2 standard without a neutraliser. In order to improve the quality and to develop the production of ZMZ-406 and ZMA-514 engines the company business plan includes USD 52 mln of investments for the next three years.
In addition, OAO ZMZ produces cutting tools, it has its own machine-tool building, metal casting and gear production facilities. The production capacity of the plant allows to provide output of 460 000 engines, 46 000 tons of aluminium alloy casting, 120 mln. sliding gears per year. In 2001 OAO ZMZ for its high quality of gears was awarded the Diploma of the winner of the Competition — «Hundred Best Goods of Russia», at has also obtained the rights to place «a golden» sign of the winner on packs of all 630 types of sliding gears made by ZMZ.
The company quality control system was assessed by the German Association of Technical Supervision (TUF) to certify that it meets the international standard requirements ISO 9001-94 and State Standards GOST R ISO 9001-96. In 2001 following the audit examination the validity of the standards was re-confirmed.
The geography of OAO ZMZ deliveries includes all regions of Russia, the countries of the near and far abroad. Currently the company is actively widening the scope of the partnership links with Russian and foreign firms which display their interest towards ZMZ-514 engine. The metal cast products are delivered to MAN and Volkswagen companies.
The company entered the new century as a winner of the competition - 1000 Best Enterprises and Organisations of Russia of the 21-st Century distinguished for High Business Activity and Effective Operation.
According to the results of the competition «The Best Russian Enterprises - 2000» for its effective environment protection policy ZMZ was included among the nine Russian leading enterprises - environment protection leaders of the Russian economy.
For a major contribution to the economy of Nizhny Novgorod province and Russia, for timely payment of taxes in 2001 the company was awarded the Certificate of a Diligent Taxpayer.
