We are used to looking at the world through the glass. But if for a change we take a look at the glass, in most cases we will see the original marking of Bor Glassworks and the word BOR in the corner of the glass of your car.
Company Profile
Bor Glassworks JSC has been operating in the Russian market for 70 years. And 35 years ago Bor Glassworks made a major breakthrough in the Russian glass industry by implementing and mastering float technology to produce flat glass of high quality with a perfectly smooth surface and natural shine, never distorting the world around us.
Proving its innovative status Bor Glassworks was the first Russian glassmaker to start in the 40s production of safe laminated glass and tempered glass with strength 5—6 times higher than that of a regular glass. When broken, tempered glass falls into small fragments with blunt edges preventing serious injuries the same way as laminated glass. In 1997 Glaverbel S.A., a Belgian glassmaker, purchased a share in Bor Glassworks, and the plant became a part of the company that is a European leader in implementation of the up-to-date technology within its variety of glazing solutions (automotive glazing, coated glass, etc.). Glaverbel, in its turn, is a part of Asahi Glass Co, Ltd., a world known Japanese corporation. Once became a member of the Group Bor Glassworks has kept its market positions and has also obtained a considerable competitive advantage. Due to investments the plant successfully accomplished technical re-equip ment, and after cold repairs of two float lines the quality of Bor glass reached the world-best standards. In 2002 a new laminated glass production line, most advanced in Europe, was launched to produce safe automotive glass for both domestic automakers and global automotive manufacturers assembling cars in Russia. Major Russian automakers AutoVAZ, GAZ, PAZ, IzhMash, UAZ are the customers of Bor Glassworks. Successful cooperation is continued with GM-AutoVAZ joint venture. Nearly 80% of all Russian-made cars are equipped with glass made in Bor. Ford Motor Company, the worldwide corporation, also chose Bor glass for its overseas production branch, and a contract was signed for the development of glass production for new Ford Focus. Besides, Bor Glassworks has become a supplier for Moscow-based assembly plant Avtoframos JSC producing Renault Logan cars. Recently Bor Glassworks started production of green heat-absorbing glass, which protects drivers and passengers from direct sunlight and prevents eyestrain. Bor heat-absorbing glass was awarded golden logo 100 Best Russian Products at the Best Product of the Year contest. The main advantage of Bor Glassworks over its western competitors actively operating in the Russian market is the quality of the glass, which is confirmed by successful certification of the quality management, environmental management, and occupational safety and labour protection systems of the plant. Bor Glassworks became the second plant in Glaverbel Group to have these three systems certified as an integrated management system. Bor Glassworks is actively developing its dealer network, launching new offices in different regions. Efficient sales in Russia and CIS are ensured by central representation office of Glaverbel in Moscow — Glaverbel Vostok, responsible for sales of float glass produced by Bor Glassworks and a wide range of products manufactured by Glaverbel plants in Europe. Bor Glassworks is also successfully operating in the Russian and foreign automotive replacement glass market. The plant continues implementation of investment projects. The construction of new laminated and tempered glass production facilities was launched recently to start in 2006 manufacturing of high quality windshields designed for the latest makes of cars produced by major Russian automakers and cars of foreign manufacturers assembled in Russia. The expected capacity of the new production line is around 1 million square meters of laminated glass per year. Amazing qualities of glass are demanded not only by car manufacturers but also by modern architects who follow the contemporary idea of open space in construction. Float glass produced in Bor is used as initial material for fa ades glazing, and large dimension glass of 6Ѕ3 m, first in Russia produced by Bor Glassworks, is in particular demand in the construction market. Bor Glassworks has independent production units of float glass, automotive glass and technical mirrors. Mirrors production is also developing new types of products, launching production of prismatic mirrors and titanium-coated mirrors. Bor Glassworks shares corporate values of Asahi Glass Company, continuously pursuing operational excellence and improvement in every activity. And despite the tough competition Bor Glassworks today is going one step ahead, the same way as it has been for already 70 years.
