OAO Semar, founded in 1949 as mechanical workshops of the Ministry of Forestry, to-day is a modern experimental mechanical plant included in 1995 among 5 000 leading companies awarded with the title "Leader of Russian Economy.
The firm is known in Russia and in CIS countries as a producer of SAPZ 3280 buses on GAZ-3307 chassis, which differ in design from the similar type made by the Kurgan plant by their higher endurance and body durability. Besides there is a longer range of modifications. In addition to the 21-seat buses, the firm produces 3-, 8- and 12-seat freight/ passenger buses of 2. 5 ton, 1. 2 ton and 0. 7 ton capacity correspondingly.
Since early of the 1990's the company produces Semar 13-seat mini-bus on GAZ-33021 chassis. In difference to the OAO GAZ vehicle the bus body volume is increased by 2 m3 by increasing its height, the bus has swinging doors.
Using the same chassis the firm manufactures special purpose vehicles: reanimation, ambulance, for communal and funeral services, working shift transpoters. The firm has developed and is launching into production SAPZ 3228 all-wheel drive bus on Sadko GAZ 3308 chassis. In addition, the company produces a wide range of consumer goods - 9 types of body-building units, 11 type of metal cabinets and strong-boxes, small dimension multi-operation wood processing machine tools. All products are secured by licences.
The plant keeps to aim its efforts to further development. In 1998 a new assembly line for GAZ-3307 and GAZ-3321 chassis from OAO GAZ components was put into operation.
The company strategy is focused on expansion of sales markets and increase of production output with optimal ratio "price-quality-quantity-service".
