Nizhny Novgorod Sausages, a joint-stock company (AO NIKO), is a leading enterprise in Nizhny Novgorod province for processing all types of cattle, poultry, production of sausages and uncooked foods, industrial products, art articles of horn and bone. AO NIKO was created following reorganisation of Integrated Meat Factory ¹1 set up in the 1950s and it includes:
— sloughterhouse;
— storage refrigerator of 1 622t capacity;
— sausage workshop;
— poultry workshop;
— workshop for production of art items from horn and bone;
— three province subsidiaries for cattle processing.

The number of employees — 1 700. Plant single daily shift output:
— 102.5t of meat, including 10.3t of poultry;
— 31t of sausages;
— 28t of uncooked meat foods;
— 18.4t of packed meat.

The range of products comprises over 200 items, including over 130 different sausages. The plant produces 30 types of liquid smoked sausages, 5 boil smoked, 28 half-smoked, 40 smoked, 65 boiled sausages, small sausages, etc. AO NIKO runs 13 chain retail outlets and a has a vacuum packing line. A daily range of products is over 60 types of sausages and about 20 types of uncooked foods. The company delivers the products to the customers by its own vehicles. In 1991 the company set up a production of art items of horn and bone. The art shop makes lady’s fancy adornments: brooches, pendants, earrings, necklaces. It also makes catholic, Orthodox and Moslem rosary and souvenirs. The cooperation of AO NIKO with GRUP FIBOSA, CA, a Spanish company, resulted in a liquid smoked sausage plant with 3t of daily output.

The company offers for export:
— melted food fats;
— industrial fats;
— horn and hoof materials;
— endocrene-ferment material;
— cattle skins.
