The plant was built in 1932. It is focused on production of a combat fighter developed by the Mykoyan design office (Moscow).
Since 1949 the plant was involved in full-scale production of:
MIG-15 (ended in 1951), MIG-17 (ended in 1954), MIG-19 (ended in 1958), MIG-21 (ended in 1985), MIG-25 ( ended in 1990 ).
Nowadays the plant produces MIG-29UB and MIG-31 fighters and modernizes MIG-21BIS employed by the air force.
Within the conversion programmes the plant manufactures:
— M-101T Gzhel, 8-seater aircraft;
— F15-F Exalibur, 4-seater training aircraft;
— Dingo, 8-seater amphibious air cushion aircraft
— Volga-2, 8-seater amphibious motorboat with dynamic air cushion;
— Sever-4P, 4-seater amphibious air cushion motorboat;
— Sokol, seafaring hydrofoil motorboat;
— Akkord, 4-seater amphibious aircraft;
— consumer goods: satellite aerials, furniture, kitchen utensils and othe types of products.
AOOT Sokol is acting on a development of new technologies and setting up of joint productions.
Sokol is a member of the Nizhny Novgorod Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
