Black stork decided to visit forests of our region together with its seed. Ornithologist Alexey Levashkin was the one who has found the nest of this rare bird while bypassing one of the natural monuments. This territory is now under protection in order to avoid crowds of curious onlookers.

It should also be mentioned that any of these birds have ever been seen in our region throughout decades. Unfortunately this gorgeous and beautiful creature is listed in the Red Data Book of Russian Federation, Belorussia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The world’s largest population of black storks lives on the territory of wildlife Zvantes sanctuary which is located in Belorussia.

Black stork is a shy bird. It tries to avoid people and other creatures. That is why it can be found mostly deep in the forest as well as near ponds and foothills. It prefers eating fish, aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates. You will hardly hear its voice as well as voice of the white stork.

Such secretiveness and natural shyness let us know very few facts about these birds and the way they act in wild nature.
